Archaeology Site Reconciliation Project

The purpose of the Archaeology Project was to improve the spatial accuracy of archaeological sites in the province. Sites were reviewed across the entire province.

Site location comparison was done using the HRIA (Heritage Resource Inventory Application). This is a custom application for maintaining inventory and spatial data for archaeological sites.

To assess the spatial accuracy of the sites, the original paper site forms were compared against a variety of layers in the HRIA, such as TRIM roads, TRIM water, orthophoto, cadastral, and other LRDW layers. Site forms contained both descriptive and visual (map) based information. Site geometry and location were updated if either the location or site geometetry (shape) could be improved upon.

Several QA checks were performed along the way to ensure accuracy and consistency of data. The deliverables for this project also included supporting documentation.
